I’m proud for today being able to finally announce the official launch of hexagonstar.com!
Wait, what?? That site has been up like, for years! That’s true but so far it was pretty much permanently under maintenance and never officially launched. Instead this blog acted as a main site for a very long time. But this is going to change from now as I’m going to slowly move over more and more to the top domain site.
So what will you find over at hexagonstar.com? The site will act as an outlet for indie game development and a release platform for games and software. Right now there is a small but fine selection of affiliate indie games that are being offered plus my free software releases and a few bits and pieces on RPG design writing. In the future I will hopefully concentrate more on writing some more about game design, RPG design, stats and game development geekdom topics as well as talking about the game engine I’m working on called “tetragon”, which is a huge thing btw.
I will leave H1DD3N.R350URC3 open to occasionally write about various topics here or post gaming videos etc. But my main focus on game design and development will move over to hexagonstar.com.
So head over to hexagonstar.com quickly! And remember to stay a while, stay forever!
Here’s just a small tidbit about a new WordPress plugIn named WPTouch I’ve added to Hidden Resource that automatically displays the blog in a mobile-friendly theme on IPhones and Andoid phones. The mobile version is themed in a design similar to Apple’s appstore and it turns out to be a very smooth and slick experience indeed to read posts and comments and also leaving comments. The theme even features selectors to filter posts by tag or category and in fact the whole site feels as if it’s an iPhone app all by itself.
So enjoy reading HDRS on your phone! Oh and if you’re running a WP blog you might want to consider installing the plugin because I might want to rejoice over your site on the phone. Besides installation is as easy as with all WP plugins so there’s virtually no excuse!
In case you’re wondering what happened on this site besides that it has been visually overhauled … two of my older blogs have now been merged with Hidden Resource. One, Dataleak, was my very first blog that I used for mainly writing about computer games, especially old ones. However Dataleak turned more and more into a abandoned net corpse and because there were quite some articles on it which I found have nostalgic value I decided to take them over to HDRS. Then there was Vista Tweaking, a blog I’ve started to post tweaks for Windows Vista. The few postings from that site have been consolidated into HDRS as well. I also had the idea on the back burner about starting an audio blog since audio production is one of my many interests. But a man has only so much time and maintaining three or four blogs is clearly a chore. Just think about all the updates, handling Spam etc.
As you can see hidden.resource has been moved to it’s own domain, namely www.hiddenresource.net. At that opportunity I also gave the site a WordPress update and a new look (including those slick 16-bit style pictures at the top). Besides that HDRS is going to focus more on Game Development with ActionScript 3.0 in the future as that is what I’m (and probably the readers of this blog are) most interested in.
I’m getting some strange kind of Spam recently. Check out my Photoshop Script Positing! Around every week I’m getting one or two comments saying “great script!” or something similar and the URL obviously point to sites that have nothing to do with design or somebodies personal website. Instead they look like marketing websites. At first I didn’t realize it is Spam but it became more and more obvious.
So far these comments don’t annoy me as they are very subtle and few but if it continues with these ‘camouflaged’ thank you comments it makes me wonder if man or machine is on the other side.
I’m chased by bad luck since a while when it comes to getting this blog onto the Macromedia XML News Aggregator! First when I used Nucleus CMS it stopped fetching my feeds automatically after a while. Nobody, not me and not the admin at MXNA had any clue what was the cause. Now I’ve switched to Word Press in the hope that this would change but it now seems that I’m stuck forever with this problem. The feed URL for Word Press is very different and there seems to be no working redirection plugin for Word Press 2+. Also I cannot re-subscribe at MXNA with the same domain and any mail to the admin so far stood unanswered. Only workaround would be to change to another sub domain but I don’t want to go that far!
Finally I got myself up to completely overhaul this blog and after a long time of resisting I finally decided to switch to Word Press! Nucleus was a great system but the mysterious problems recently that kept my blog from appearing on newsfeed fetching sites forced me to go the radical way. After all a blog without any visiting readers is a net corpse!
There are still a couple of things I’m missing from Nucleus but Word Press seems to already have a decent palette of plug-ins and themes and I’m in love with the built-in WYSIWYG-Editor! Publishing a new items seems to be a bit slow however!
